Every so often, I’ll have a situation that keeps me up at night. A number of years ago, Janan and I had a neighbor who was a nightmare. Like, one of those guys that other neighbors warn you about when you move in and tell you to avoid.

It seemed like scarcely a week would pass before he was issuing some new complaint, talking to the city, or consulting a lawyer about a walkway on our property. Not wanting to be a bad neighbor, I went to the city and asked if our walkway was legal. It was, but that still didn’t put my mind at ease.

I’m a bit of a people pleaser, and try to live by Romans 12:18, which says, “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” But when peace isn’t possible because someone is acting irrationally, what should you do?

That’s a tough question and one Janan and I have had to navigate again this week because of a dishonest local business owner who scammed us out of a couple of thousand dollars and then issued threats when I confronted him.

While situations like this take a mental toll, I believe they can be useful because they force us to confront where we find our peace.

Lies That Keep Your Mind from Peace

One of the ways I regain peace is by confronting lies with truth.
