God Isn’t Done with You Yet

Do you ever feel like God is finished with you? Are you ready to give up? If so, take heart. God IS NOT done with you yet.

Quitting. I have a love-hate relationship with this word. Some days I have an amazing amount of energy, and other days I just want to stop.

When my dad taught me how to play the guitar when I was 8 years old, he started me with fifteen minutes a day and gradually increased it to one hour as I got older. As my practice time increased, there were many times I wanted to quit because it became tedious and hard.

During my doctoral studies, there were many weeks when I wanted to stop and quit because the director kept asking me to revise my paper.

When I got into a car accident in 2015 and had to do three days of therapy per week—two days of physio and one day of massage therapy—many times I wanted to quit.

When You Feel Like Quitting

While there were many times when I wanted to quit on projects, there were also times when I wanted to quit on myself. Why?

Because I didn’t feel good enough.

I felt like a failure.

I felt like I couldn’t do what God called me to do or live the life he had asked me to live.

But Philippians 1:6 says, “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”Paul is the one writing these words, and we can take courage in what he is saying because if there is anyone who shouldn’t have a say or do the work of the gospel, it’s Paul.

Here’s why: we are talking about the guy whose name was changed from Saul to Paul.

  • Before Paul was used by God to spread the gospel, Saul was the one who approved of Stephen’s death (a follower of Jesus Christ).
  • Saul was the one who wrote letters for Christians to be jailed if they followed the Way (Jesus).
  • Saul was the one who persecuted the Christians.

It’s this Saul, who God stopped in his tracks as he was on his way to put more Christians in jail, and was asked by Jesus himself, “Why are you persecuting me?” In that moment, Saul realized he was wrong, and his life changed. From that moment onwards, his life was never the same.

God started a work in him and pursued him.
